The Yellow Emperor said, “When the primal energy was divided, yin and yang found their places, the five elements were established, and the Six Jia were born. Thus, the Six Ding are part of the ten gods of the Six Jia cyclical gods. They were born with heaven and earth. During the battle against Chi You, I was not victorious and the cosmic order was thrown into disarray. So, I purified myself and prayed with utmost sincerity to the heavens. In response, the Nine Heavens Mysterious Maiden descended and bestowed this true method upon me, a way to dispel misfortune and evil, and to benefit people. I cultivated this practice, and with its aid, I prevailed against Chi You. I then transcribed these talismans onto white silk and hid them in famous mountains. Later generations have occasionally found them. This method possesses divine power, which I will not elaborate on. If anyone transmits it lightly or with disrespect, they will offend the true spirits and both will suffer calamity.
“This is a miraculous secret for saving the world. Ancient generals all received this method, which allowed them to foresee victory and defeat, predict good and bad fortune, and distinguish right from wrong. Sages and wise men all had divine assistance through this. If you are not a hero or a sagacious person with a pre-existing connection to the Tao, do not attempt this path, as it will be a waste of time.
“The Yellow Emperor said, ‘The names of the Six Jia and Six Ding divine maidens: First, use clean water to wash away all impurities before unrolling the scroll and praying with reverence. If you commit any transgression, calamity will befall your nine ancestral generations, and you will be a lifelong servant to the Three Officials. You will also suffer disfigurement and ruin. Do not recklessly reveal these secrets to non-Taoists. Follow my precepts, and your ten thousand wishes will be granted.'”
“The one who transmits this should be like a disciple to a strict master. Be careful with your words and do not pass it on. Do not kill living beings without reason. Constantly perform virtuous deeds in secret, and have a compassionate heart to save all things. Always be mindful of your conduct and do not speak carelessly. Simply offer sacrifices and use the method, and you will be able to foresee the future. You will be able to perceive events thousands of miles away and know every minute detail of people’s actions and intentions. If you have a question about an event, divine it and you will know the answer immediately.”
Dengming, Hekui, Congkui (capture them on the Dingmao day of the three spring months).
Taiyi, Tiangang, Taichong (capture them on the Dinghai day of the three autumn months).
Chuansong, Xiaoji, Shengguang (capture them on the Dingyou day of the three summer months).
Gongcao, Daji, Shenhou (capture them on the Dingchou day of the three winter months).
If it is a Dingwei or Dingsi day, act according to the day’s auspiciousness. Summon and employ them. They will descend to the human world in pairs. If you wish to know good or bad fortune, summon them and ask, and they will tell you.
The Method of Ritual Offerings
To perform the ritual, first prepare a clean mat that has not been soiled, a new cloth towel, six parts of deer jerky, six parts of chestnuts and dates, a new jar of fine wine, and six parts of sweet honey. Also prepare one incense burner and six candles. First, sweep and clean a room. Once everything is set, sit down and speak in a low voice, so no one can hear. Meditate on the divine beings for a long time before reciting the prayer:
“Six Ding Jade Maidens, my masters, you travel the world. Any undertaking is destined to succeed. You have profound knowledge of all comings and goings. Evil energies cannot invade. You ward off misfortune. I will be your friend. I will always offer sacrifices to you, and you will drink wine and eat the jerky. Everything will proceed as I wish, and there will be no opposition. If I seek the Tao to become an immortal, you will grant my every request. If I burn elixirs and refine medicine, I will certainly succeed. I wish to have divine immortals descend and unite with the Tao. Urgently, according to the laws of the Most High!”
The Method of Ritual and Talismans for the Six Ding
Use a clean mat and a six-foot-long towel. Prepare six parts of deer jerky, wine, fruits, and pancakes. Also, one incense burner. Sweep a room clean and arrange everything. Starting on the Jiazi day, fast for three days. In a cool room, burn incense, pray with a sincere heart, and make your vow. On a Ding day, at the Hai hour, write the images and talismans of the Six Ding gods facing the auspicious direction. Arrange them all on the mat. Burn incense and bow your head toward the east, clicking your teeth thirty-six times. Then, recite the incantation:
“Born of heaven, raised by earth. Receiving the divine talisman from above, I can attain eternal life. Immortals assist me, and Jade Maidens support my form. The twenty-eight constellations record the names of the stars. The five directions, five colors: black, white, crimson, and green. The Central Yellow Emperor, unite with me. After receiving the talisman, my wishes will be fulfilled, and all demons will be destroyed. Those who know they are not true, do not stand in my way. Those who know they are not divine, do not stand in my way. Go forth and become a marquis; those who come after will be beheaded. Urgently, according to the law!”
Whenever you create a talisman, you must fast for three days; seven days is also acceptable. When writing the talisman, face the auspicious direction, sit upright, and clear your thoughts. Envision the divine beings as if they are right in front of you. Recite the incantation:
“I reverently invite the Six Ding Immortal Officials: the god of Dingmao, the god of Dingyou who is full of vigor, the god of Dinghai from the heavens, the god of Dingyou who gathers great brightness, the god of Dingwei who saves with numinous light, and the god of Dingsi who rides on a purple cloud, whose name is Zhu Cheng.”
The scripture says: “To practice this method, you must be single-minded and sincere. Do not have any other thoughts. Then, swallow the talismans in the correct order. The person will feel delighted, as if they have gained knowledge. The next morning, make and swallow another talisman. After seven days, set up an altar in a cool room and sit upright. Prepare one portion each of incense, flowers, lanterns, and candles. Write the talismans for each position and the names of the gods, and place them on the mat. Click your teeth thirty-six times facing east, and visualize the five-colored clouds. You will then see the gods entering through the six doors and sitting on their seats. Do not stare at them intently. Simply pray in your heart for what you desire, and your wishes will surely be answered.”
“In ancient times, when Chi You caused chaos, the Yellow Emperor and Chi You fought many battles, and the Emperor could not win. The Emperor said, ‘I have heard that when Fu Xi was in power, he ruled the world without weapons, and the universe was peaceful and stable. Now, Chi You is just a commoner, yet I cannot defeat him. This is my own fault.’ He prayed with reverence without ceasing. Suddenly, a five-colored cloud appeared in the sky. Within the cloud were two young boys carrying a golden box, and behind them, six immortal maidens. They were sent by the Nine Heavens Mysterious Maiden with a decree to give the Emperor the source of creation, the good and bad fortune of heaven and earth, the decline and prosperity of the Eight Trigrams, the changes of wind and clouds, the success and failure of seasons, the victory and defeat of the sun and moon, the gains and losses of yin and yang, the good and bad of the stars, the harmony and disharmony of human feelings, and the principles of transformation. The Emperor knelt down to receive it. The young boys floated away on the clouds, and the six immortal maidens also disappeared. The Emperor received the box but did not dare to open it immediately. He quickly cleaned a room and fasted for three days. Only then did he open the box and receive a copy of the Six Ding method. The first scroll spoke of the methods of offerings and sacrifices; the middle scroll spoke of the way of eternal life; and the last scroll spoke of strengthening armies for victory, the Dunjia Liuren art, and the Nine Heavens Mysterious Maiden’s method of releasing the corporeal body. The Emperor followed the text and cultivated the practice with reverence. In less than ten days, he felt his body transform, and he could walk in the air. He then challenged Chi You to another battle, and with a single drum beat, he destroyed him and drove him away from the source of the Banlu River. This was all because he obtained the essence of the primal energy and eliminated the demonic miasma. Afterward, the world became peaceful, heaven and earth found their proper places, and yin and yang did not lose their order. The Emperor then cultivated the way of eternal life and wrote the Yinfu Jing (Scripture of the Hidden Seal), in which he hid crucial secrets. Later, the Emperor ascended to heaven in broad daylight. The Yinfu Jing says, ‘The Eight Trigrams and the Jiazi hide divine secrets and ghosts.’ This is the art of the Six Ding Dunjia for strengthening armies and achieving victory, which is the art of the Nine Heavens Mysterious Maiden.”
The Secret of Six Ding Concealment Technique
The Six Ding are the true gods of heaven and earth, unlike ordinary spirits. The Azure Dragon, the Luminous Hall, and the Great Yin—these gods always accompany the Jade Maidens and can be summoned to act within the heavens and the earth. If you want to conceal your body so that no one or anything can see you, when the Azure Dragon reaches the Jade Maiden, people will not be able to see you.
To conceal your body, hold a knife in your left hand and keep your mouth closed. With your right hand, draw a square diagram. If an evil person is outside, make the diagram six steps long inside your door. If the evil person is in the doorway, make the diagram six steps long in your courtyard. If the evil person is in the courtyard, make the diagram six feet long inside your room. If you are in a field or wilderness, make the diagram six zhang long. Use a calculating stick that is one foot and two inches long. Follow the Azure Dragon and move the stick in order. When the stick reaches the Gate of Heaven, use your right hand to place one stick horizontally to close the Gate of Heaven and then leave. Once the Gate of Heaven is closed, your body will be concealed. For each calculating stick, visualize one person. When the Jade Maiden reaches the Great Yin and stays there, you will feel that others can no longer see you.
Commentary: The stick is not an ordinary stick but has certain talismanic inscription carved / written on it
The technique says: “Reside in the Azure Dragon, pass through the Peng star, cross the Luminous Hall, stay in the Great Yin, exit the Gate of Heaven, enter the Gate of Earth, hide under the Star Canopy, and conceal yourself with the Jade Maidens. Urgently, according to the laws of the Most High!”
Dingmao conceals a person’s body. Dingsi conceals a person’s destiny. Dinghai conceals a person’s fortune. Dingyou conceals a person’s soul. Dingwei conceals a person’s spirit. Dingchou conceals a person’s essence. For all matters on a Ding day, recite the incantation six times:
“Ren Gao protects me. Dingchou preserves me. Ren He guides me. Dingyou fully protects. Ren Can commands the soul. Dingsi nourishes the spirit. The Great Yin and the Star Canopy, the Gate of Earth and the Gate of Heaven. I walk the pace of Yu, a true person of the Mysterious Maiden. I sit and lie in the Luminous Hall, hiding and concealing myself. Urgently, according to the laws of the Nine Heavens Mysterious Maiden!”
You must eat all the offerings yourself and not give them to outsiders. Be very careful about this. You must fast for one day on every Jiazi day.

They are all divine and effective.” The immortal scriptures say, “The names of the Six Ding Jade Maidens are so minute that you can call them by name and they will grant your ten thousand wishes.”
