Jiu Tian Xuan Nu: The Ancient Goddess of War and Master of Mystical Arts
Jiu Tian Xuan Nu, also known as Xuan Nu, and colloquially referred to as “Jiu Tian Niang Niang” or “Jiu Tian Xuan Mu Tian Zun,” is an ancient goddess of war and the revered “Grandmaster” of Qi Men Dun Jia. She is the deity of mystical arts and a high-ranking immortal. In ancient mythology, she was the teacher of the Yellow Emperor, one of the three sovereigns and five emperors of ancient China.
During the Yellow Emperor’s battle against the tribal leader Chi You, Xuan Nu provided him with significant aid, demonstrating that while her status may not be as supreme as deities like the “San Qing” or “Si Yu,” she is certainly not a minor goddess.
According to ancient texts, Jiu Tian Xuan Nu taught the Yellow Emperor various arts and knowledge, including:
Qi Men Dun Jia (Mystical Gates and Hiding Stems)
Tai Yi (Great One)
Liu Ren (Six Jia)
The principles of Yin-Yang and the Five Elements
She also helped him create the compass chariot and taught his tribe how to train wild animals. With her assistance, the Yellow Emperor was able to unify the tribes and establish his dominance.
The Meaning of “Jiu Tian”
The term “Jiu Tian” literally means “Nine Heavens,” but it signifies the highest layer of heaven, not the ninth layer.
From the perspective of the Three Realms (San Jie), there are 36 layers of heaven, with the 28 layers being within the realms, while beyond them is the realm of boundless emptiness. The “Jiu Tian” represents the central direction and the eight cardinal directions, symbolizing all directions and the entire universe. This heavenly structure is a spiral, with a total of 36 layers (9 layers in each of the four directions). The “Jiu” in “Jiu Tian” also implies the concept of “ultimate” or “limitless,” hence Jiu Tian refers to the highest layer of heaven, the “Da Luo Tian,” or the 36th heaven.
Jiu Tian Xuan Nu resides in Da Luo Tian, commands the armies of the nine heavens, and is the great goddess of war in the East. She is well-versed in military strategy and possesses powerful mystical abilities. She is a righteous deity who assists heroes in vanquishing evil and violence, embodying the spirit of an ancient goddess of war.
She is also revered as the founding ancestor by many Daoist sects and a compassionate deity who enlightens all beings. It is said that those who hear her secret name will have their sins erased and receive immeasurable blessings. Those who chant her name will immediately emanate a powerful aura that intimidates evil spirits and demons. Practitioners of her Daoist arts are said to be able to command all gods, and some of her secret teachings are not to be spoken. She’s one of our lineage teacher in Faqimen lineage.

Most of the statue of Jiu Tian Xuan Nu consecrated without the correct rituals do not exert such power or lack of blessings. If you had been to my altar you would felt the intense power of the deity installed in my office, the energy is different and can be felt the moment you step in my office, an immense overwhelming peace, tranquility and other attributes I won’t mention here.
Most of the consecrated statues of deity out there are unable to achieve this. The do not follow the rituals adhered in Liu Jia Heavenly Scripture. It’s just a mundane statue without the right consecration. Can’t even invoke the Liu Ding Liu Jia Protectors. As they serve Jiu Tian Xuan Nu.
